About Pophood

The Pophood has been designed by a mum from Maidenhead.      She came up with the idea after struggling with an umbrella on a windy day whilst trying to push a pushchair up and down the kerbs with one hand. This gave her the beginnings of an idea for creating a better type of hood - one which would stay up, stop your hair getting squashed and let you keep both hands free to use.

The Pophood design won a Platinum Award (Leisure category) at the British Invention Show October 2006 and also a special recognition award at the British Female Inventor and Innovator Awards.     Sarah was also invited to appear on the ITV Richard Hammond 5 O'clock Show along with several other inventive mums for the programme's 'Mothers of Invention' feature.

Safety
The slim frame in the front seam of the hood is made of flexible polypropylene strip which has been shaped to allow better cover over the face but is curved in at the sides to allow good visibility. The plastic frame has been safety tested by SATRA to ensure that it will withstand regular use and not snap or break.

Uses
The Pophood is ideal for people who want to stay dry, look good and have both hands free for safety and convenience when it is raining e.g.
  • Parents with young children or pushing pushchairs
  • Dog walkers
  • Shoppers with bags to carry
  • Carrying laptops or briefcases
  • Walking and hiking
  • Playing golf
  • Working outdoors
  • Watching sports or outdoor concerts
  • Travelling with suitcases and luggage
  • Using walking aids or wheelchairs

The design is suitable for use in the hoods of most types of rainwear -raincoats, lightweight waterproof jackets, and even rain-ponchos.

Rainponchos

Emergency rainponchos are made of a very lightweight plastic so the hood blows back with the slightest movement or breeze. This means you are consRainponchostantly having to hold onto the hood while it's raining!

But with a Pophood frame manufactured into the hood it will keep the hood held up for you, so that you can enjoy your sports event, music concert or theme park visit  properly.

The frame will still curl away small enough to pack away in a little rainponcho bag between the showers. This picture shows how the frame is strong enough to keep the hood up in windy conditions.

Pophood rainponchos are currently under development.
